Can you share the story of how you met? Our story is a modern fairytale, laced with that of a classic romance. We met via a dating app, but from our first date – a coffee date – we both knew we’d found our soulmate.
What was the proposal like? It was a complete surprise and one that Jay carefully planned out to make it memorable and romantic. We were on a cruise holiday over New Year’s with my family. Jay had organised the ring well in advance (and managed to keep it hidden from me) and knew he wanted to propose on the white theme night at sunset. He staged it for us to go and take some pictures at sunset. He organised for my mum to take a ‘photo’ of us, while my dad was in the background capturing it on video. Midway through the photos, Jay turned around and proposed.
What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme/vibe? We wanted to go for a time-less and elegant themethat complemented the rustic yet elevated charm of Yandina Sta-tion. We opted for simple colours of white, soft yellow, soft gold and oat throughout the day and blended some tradition with modern twists. We tried to avoid what was trending and keep it authentic to us.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day? The absolute highlight was walking down the aisle and seeing Jay. During our ceremony it was like we were the only two people in the entire world, and that feeling of, ‘wow, I’m about to marry you’, was something I will treasure forever. In saying that, the whole day was a dream and we both had so much fun.
Did you incorporate any personal touches or traditions into your wedding? We tried to incorporate a few personal touches throughout the day, with one of the biggest being Jay’s entrance to the wedding. He and his groomsmen arrived on dirt bikes, with Jay rid-ing his late brother’s Honda CRF450. I wore my mum’s beautiful pearl bracelet, the same one she wore on her wedding day, and arrived in my dad’s 1973 Jaguar XJ6.
What was your favourite part of the reception? We loved being surrounded by all our family and friends, sharing dinner and dancing all night long. It was also magical to see the space we envisioned come to life.
What advice would you give to couples currently planning their wedding? There are just so many options out there when planning a wedding, so don’t be afraid to keep it simple and don’t feel pressured to do what everyone else is doing. It can be overwhelming when there is so much to consider and so many places to source inspiration and information. At the end of the day, it’s about you and your partner.
