Torches - Review

pepper - january 12

INDIE BAND FOSTER THE PEOPLE was never meant to be a commercial success.

Front man Mark Foster, a jingle writer at the time, wrote and recorded the debut single Pumped Up Kicks in just five hours, thinking it would only be a demo track.

The song went viral though, picked up by blogs and radio stations, then by several high-profile US television shows and movies.

The insanely cute all-male trio are now extremely hot property with nominations for 2012 Grammy Awards and MTV Video Awards.

Based in LA, their debut album Torches is a collection of catchy, feel good tunes — Don’t Stop, Helena Beat and Call It What You Want (watch the video here) — that are drenched in Californian summer sun.

While the album has mass appeal, it’s balanced by quirky lyrics and a unique sound that retains the band’s cool indie roots.

You’ll be able to catch Foster The People at this year’s Big Day Out gigs but you’ll have to hurry!

Available at iTunes for $9.99.
